On July 21st, Mirage3D was awarded the Sony 4K award at the annual DomeFest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. The piece submitted was named: "RocketMan", a 3:40 minute compilation of the Mirage3D show: "Dawn of the Space Age". The award was presented by Brett Silvernman of Sony Electronic Inc. to Robin Sip of Mirage3D. The Sony 4K award tries to encourage the best use of the high resolution capabilites of the current projection technology in fulldome video productions. The complete 42 minute show "Dawn of the Space Age" was shown to the DomeFest attendees on July 22nd, for the first time on 4K high resolution. Another first at DomeFest was the installation of quadruple 4K projectors by Sky-Skan, Inc. , enabling a fulldome stereo image on the Dome, for the first time in the United States. Mirage3D had prepared one fulldome scene of "Dawn of the Space Age" to be shown in stereo 3D: Yuri Gagarin in his space capsule, playing with a pencil in the zero gravity environment. The intention is to re-render the entire "Dawn of the Space Age" show so that it can be projected in future stereo 3D fulldome theatres around the World. |
